Bio
Jan Saenz is an aspiring photographer and native Houstonian. In the 9th grade her grandparents gave her a Nikon EM, but photography was not something that came naturally. She found herself excelling in other mediums such as writing, acting, and composing. She still experimented with photography as a hobby, but never imagining that one day she would choose it as a career. It was not until 2004, after the birth of her first child, that she realized her true passion for the art form.
“Becoming a mother gave me a different point of view that was exciting and new. I was looking at the world differently and discovering a wider spectrum of strength and vulnerability in myself. And the camera was a way to document and celebrate that change.”
Jan now lives in Northwest Houston with her husband and two children. She runs her own small photography business and draws inspiration from the works of Robert Frank, Helen Levitt, Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz, Mario Giacomelli, and Arnold Newman.
